960 I-6 Engine 900 All 960s

This may have been answered before, but.... Are the 960 I-6 engines self destructing when the timing belt breaks? How does reliability of the I-6 compare with the I-4s (B23F and B230). I have had 5 of the I-4 powered engines and am satisfied with their durability, but would like more power pulling trailers, etc. Thanks
