Volvoradio dissection. volume screwy 200 all

the Volvoradio in my '74 245 plays fine then i hit a bump or stop quickly and it goes quiet, i turn it up the whole way and it's at a normal listening volume, but fuzzy sounding. if i turn the wipers on, or stop quickly it gets loud. but as soon as the wipers are off it goes back to quiet. this condition comes and goes. i figure it's a loose connection. I have a decent electronics background and would be comfortable re-soldering some joints. anyone know if there is a problem area in there somewhere??? should I just spend the $29 for a Sparkomatic stereo? Thanks! -Rob
