Thanks for the replies. Is the "power stage" the same as the ignition control unit? I have a test procedure for the hall sensor, so I can check that one out. The car quit and has failed to restart after a 20 min period of idling. It did one restart then quit with no restart. It sounds like a hall sensor failure due to overheating, except that it won't start cold either.
