(I'm relying on memory here)

That unit was made 'hot-wire' proof by using an armored cable between the switch and the primary of the coil. To do this the coil was mounted into the firewall. Step 1, then, is to un-mount the coil. I believe the switch bezel on the dash can be unscrewed.
