engine noise 200 78

My name is Vince I own a 1978 262c bertone with the b27f(the famous PVR6) engine. At +100,000 miles it started to sound like the valves were in need of adjustment, we did that job but it did not solve our noise problem. I was told the problem might be the timing chains being out of adjustment/worn causing the noise. I have a few questions to ask you:

1. How can i diagnose to make sure that it is the timing chains?

2. If it is, can the tentioners be adjusted to to quiet the noise?

3. can anyone tell me whether the heads need to be removed, or to drill a hole in the firewall to change camshafts, rockers etc.

This car is in good condition otherwise,I have to make a decision if it is worth the trouble. I am not sure what I am getting into,My sons and I want to solve this problem the most economic way The car is running good now,but who knows how long. Noise has been appearant for two months.

thanks,

-Vince-
