Put it back together and then with the ignition off, unplug the harness to the air mass meter. If it idles OK, that is the AMM. It will not run well, but it should idle OK. That at least is the definitive test for the B230 cars (85-88) with the 007 AMM.

Amm's for your car are the 002 type and are easily had on Ebay or elsewhere for $50-75. The problem is that occassionally, the ECU failure results in "failure to adjust mixture" and can mimic AMM failure.
