New wiring. Too much pressure. 200 1986

I spent most of today installing a new wiring harness in my '86 245.

I removed the intake manifold (as I think it would be impossible to complete this task otherwise.

It took me about 5 solid workhours to get this done. two of them being under the car, fanagaling the removal of the old wires to the alternator, and installing the new ones (I managed to stain my hands black for a week, due to all the oil down there)

Anyway, a lot of cuts, sore leg joints, and hearing the same songs on the radio cycle thru, I was done.

The car fired up, as I had hoped, but still runs about the same.

The overdrive-off, orange arrow is STILL lit on my instrument cluster full time (manual tranny car).

And now I have a severe pressure problem.. I noticed that oil was leaking out of the fill cap onto the top of the valvecover... Also, I leaned in and heard a hissing noise at the dipstick, and upon removal, there was a large release of pressure.

Today when I had the manifold off, I cleaned all the tubing that controls the flame trap. I made sure the small tube was totally unplugged. I just put the flametrap in about a month ago, and it's a Volvo OEM brass one.

I don't get why the pressure is there. What should I check to remedy this?

Also, the car still runs a bit rough. Changing the harness didn't help my general sluggish feel that this car has.

I have my bentley manual and some test values that I suppose I'll try to research with my DMM tomorrow. What do you guys suggest I look at?

The car feels a bit hesitant compared to my old 242, and my 244.

The plugs look fine, and are the normal 'brown' color and dry.

The car starts and idles, but doesn't like to be driven unless it completely warms up.. ALSO, the car is hard to start once it is warmed up.

I'd like to thank Dave Barton for the harness. It was like new, and I recommend getting one of his if he has one you're interested in.

Also, if anyone wants to make an offer, I would sell my old harness for parts in constructing your own, if you are going that road.. (This way you can leave yours on while you make the new one.)

It would only work on an 86-87 model year though I think.

I've also got a used steering rack for sale if you want one. It's not much good as is. It's got play in the balljoints and innter tie rods.. But you could send it in as a core to have rebuilt while you drive around on your current one.

It still worked, but was leaky on the passenger's side a bit.

going rate is el-cheapo. I figured I'd offer here, before heading to the dump with these parts..

Thanks for any help.

Luke.
