steering rack 700 89

just finished grovelling about in the street, in the rain, getting my steering rack out. As usual I've been impressed with the simplicity of the setup. Interestingly I hardly had to jack the car up at all, everything was get-at-able with no hidden surprises. The seals were so gone that when I squeezed the bellows one side the fluid just shot out of the other, there was also quite a bit of movement in the track rod arm itself. The trackrod ends were a pig to get off and I had to go and buy a proper extractor. If you're going to do it get the proper one that looks like a big clothes peg, not that joke tool that uses a bolt acting directly on to the top of the trackrod end, you couldnt do a toy car with that.

Getting that reluctant uj back onto the rack is a bit tricky, but I'll finish it off tomorrow if it stops raining.
