The casting date for the head is on the rear right hand side of the head. The engine casting date is below and to the rear of the oil filter boss. If the casting dates are more than a year behind the production date of you care, the engine may have been changed. I have read that Volvo let the castings age about a year before using them. I can't find anything on block serial numbers to correlate to date of manufacture.
