squealing noise 140-160 ,72

Hello Brick Board. I have been driving a '72 142e since I got my license in August. I am only 16 and am trying to learn as much about my car as I can so that I won't be a helpless female driver. My dad has done the work on the car up to now to get it running and he can help me with any advice that you give me about this current noise. After I start the car in the morning and begin to accelerate, the engine makes a squealing noise that is horrible for a couple of seconds and then goes away. It happens most at low RPM and when the lights are on. My dad thinks it is the alternater, but, I can't tell. Is there a bearing that needs oil? Thanks for the help.
