"Small disfunctions and wear and tear signs..." in a SIXTEEN year old car, and you're COMPLAINING?!?!? BOO-HOO!!! Kids born the same year as your car are old enough to DRIVE your car!

Give your poor Volvo some credit and go out and look at a VW of similar vintage! (Although I attribute the poor condition of most VW's I see more to owner habits...) As far as handling: go to your library and look for reviews of VW's: EVERY one shows them lifting the inside rear tire in a turn, without fail, review after review... (something I point out to annoy my friend....)

I'm not one to talk anyone out of leaving the Volvo fold though, I'm content to see you go! Every little bit helps lower the resale value so I can buy more of them!
