replacing tie-rod question (squeek squeek) 140-160 1970

The boot on one of the ball joints on the right

tie-rod has a crack on it and the car makes a

squeek whenever I hit a bump or if I sit on the

front right fender. The wheel also moves back

and forth a little if I grab it and tug back and

forth. I'm afraid these might be seperate

problems, since this was the wheel that had the

less than hand tight crown nut on the thing that

holds the bearings in place (crown nut?).

How hard is it to replace this tie-rod? Can

I do it with just the jack-stands and jack and

simple standard wrenches? Will I need to do

anything to realign the car after doing this

if it is a simple r&r?

chris
