Changing Motor/Trans Mounts Directions 200 92

Hello all. Last week I posted a question about changing the above on my 1992 240 and got some good responses. Thanks to those who helped. Well, since I changed all those this past weekend and it's still fresh in my mind, I thought I'd give something back to the board. Here's a good way to do it:

The mount on the pass side is right and the driver's is left.

Each mount has two opposite facing studs. the engine mounts have an upper bracket mounted to the engine via 3 bolts and a lower mount attached to the frame via 3 bolts.

Remove the 3 bolts on both lower brackets.

jack up engine (I used a bottle jack on a couple bricks) on the left at the ac compressor a couple inches. Remove the 3 bolts holding upper mount to engine (don't bother removing nuts of mount studs). Slide out entire assembly (mount attached to both brackets. Off the car, replace the mount, slide it back in and reverse procedure. I had to align the lower bracket bolts to the frame holes while lowering engine for some reason.

The pass side mount is a little tricky until you figure it out. Here's the fastest way.

You can take the filter off if you like, but I didn't bother.

Jack up engine on pass side until lower bracket bolts clear their holes.

remove the nuts on the mount studs and slide off mount. You dont have to remove the upper bracket (besides, the mount itself blocks one of the lower bolts).

Bolt mount to lower bracket, insert lower bracket and lower engine so upper bracket slides onto mount.

On transmission, remove the single nut visible (seen through cross member).

Jack up trans an inch or two.

Remove for bolts holding cross member.

The trans mount should be staring you in the face. Remove the 2 bolts holding it's bracket onto the trans. Remeove the mount from the bracket and replace with the new mount (note the orientation)

Bolt bracket and mount back onto trans.

reinstall cross member (aligning the 4 bolts and the mount stud are a little awkward)

Put the nut back onto the remaining mount stud (through the cross member.

Done.

I hope this helps anyone who plans to change their mounts. Mine had 237k miles on them. My pass. side mount was in dire need of replacement as was the trans. mount. The drivers side was getting brittle. Also, the trans is the M47 (5-speed manual).

Well, I hope this helps someone. Thanks!
