Cruise control 200 87

Here is one which has me mildly stumped.

I have a '87 245 I am renovating and decided to drop a cruise control into.

Not a big deal, I have done it several times before.

Whilst digging through my local yard, The only cruise controls they have are the older DANA types. I figure I can slide one of these in there after all, there is not much difference between the two except the speed sensor and therin lies the rub.

I cross-matched the wiring and connected the sensor wire to the speedometer wires and the thing works fine, (as long as you do not want to set your speed above 40 or below 20 MPH.)

If you try to set it above 40, it just floors the throttle til you hit around 80 and then quits. Below 20 it does nothing at all.

I have tried adjusting the speed setting POTs as well as the sensitivity and have not had much luck.

Here are my conclusions; As I understand it, the VDO on this critter creates voltage and the speedo senses this voltage for reporting speed and mileage. If this is true, then the voltage created by the VDO unit in the hub may well be higher than the max. voltage the cruise control is set up for and may need a resistor in series with the wire to the CC to help it out.

I have tried to find the output for the cruise control off of the shift controller but have had little luck.

Any ideas? Any suggestions? Any one for a mint?
