Well, I'll try and reply in a carpartmentalized fashion.
#1 You are absolutely correct. I do recall once having an 850 spindle bolt snap in my hand. And in fact, I was using a torque wrench with the specific value dialed in.
#2 Torque tables / Torque values ARE established with precision and should be followed. However, in the case of the 960 body bolts, especially in the rear end (source of most sqeak rattle complaints) there is a huge disparity between the stated torque values given in the Volvo books and the torque TABLE limits for the specific fastener grade.
#2a The suspension in the 960 is notorious for coming unglued.
#2b Torquing WAY beyond the Volvo spec, but well within the table spec. is quite alright and makes noises stay gone.
#3 I clearly remember being a clueless 16 year old with my first car.. And you are absolutely correct. I should be more sensitive to a wide variety of readers. If I may defend my rationale.... I do not usually associate 960 owners with 16 year olds.
Now, as to your personal attacks upon me, character assasination, name calling and quasi-threatening signature line............. Well, thats just asshole stuff and I wish you wouldn't do that.
Thank you for the portion of your input that was of value.
