w/s wiper drive assembly. 200 78

I'm in the process of refitting the windshield wiper drive assembly in my '78 264. The shop manual says that the complete assembly slides in through the glove box cavity. I don't believe it, and am getting close to giving it over to a pro, which I'd be ashamed to be forced to do. Any suggestions out there? The big problem is keeping the drive cams in the wire bales whilst wrenching around under the glareshield-so far. BTW, the 264 is equipped with air conditioning, which takes up just a bit more room under there.
