diesel injector/vacumn pump = trash? 200 84

So my diesel sedan (165 k) has been stalling every time I let the idle fall below a certain level. It is always very hard to start afterwards. With some help from a friend of mine, we realized that the injection pump is leaking air somehow somewhere. At a high rpm you can see the fuel traveling smoothly to the pump. But if you shut it off the fuel slowly falls back towards the filter full of bubbles.

Has anyone ever replaced this pump before and how much did it cost?

Thoughts or comments?

thanks.

Ben
