what does this hose do?!? 700 1985

Bricks:

There is a black vacuum hose that appears from beneath my 85 740t's battery. The hose has a light gray two prong head on the end of it (like this "OO") and it just sits there, connected to nothing.

For a long time I've wondered what this does, and when I asked my mechanic he had no idea. i could just pull the vattery out and see where the other end terminates, but I thought I'd ask here first. Anyone know what this is? Is it some kind of funky air intake for the battery? I've never heard of anything like that, but... I'm not the most knowledgable about random car elemenst.

FYI, the light grey connector has the number "1307048" on it. Beneath this number and over each of the holes in the prong are a "1" and a "2". Additionally, it is included in the wrap (holder) with some other wires leading from the left side of the battery (it you are facing it) and directly to the right of the alternator.

Looking forward to hearing the answer.

Thanks,

Rick
