Can you remove the seal holder when intermediate seal in too far? 700 1992

Got a big problem! I am trying to replace the front seals on our 745 non turbo engine. I got the cam and crank out no problem But the intermediate seal was set further in, and when I went to try to pry (using small screwdriver)it out I just pushed it in further. Now it is in all the way and I dont see any way to remove it without scratching the metal surfaces, which I dont want to do. Can I remove the cover that holds the crank and intermediate seals to get it out? I know it will be more trouble but I seem to have no other choice. Do I need to drain the oil before doing this? Will it affect any moving parts? What is the torque specs for the bolts when reinstall? The Haynes manual does not say anything about this cover- I think they used an older model engine.

Thanks
