electrical fire...almost 120-130 66

hi, i nearly had a heart attack the other night. i had just started my car when i heard a loud crackle and fizz than a huge plume of smelly smoke came out from under the dash. turns out it was the ground wire going from my directional switch under the plastic steering column sleave. it had completely melted. i also have hy over drive switch hooked up there. i obviously no longer functions. my horn also has stopped working, but i just cant imagine how thats connected. i thought maybe two wires touched or something but everything looks normal under there. i ran a new ground wire but as soon as i touched the battery terminal to the battery i could tell the short was still alive and well. i just a second i almost melted this wire too. any ideas? thanks alot--travis
