Mere Speculation, but 700 1988

I have an AW-71 in the '83 Toyota Celica that my youngest kids drive, and when it was newer, the seal at the top of the dipstick was very good. When I pulled the engine and trans to do a rebuild/hop-up on the engine, I also gave the AW-71 a thorough servicing and new seals while it was conveniently on my workbench, and I noticed that the part of the dipstick that you read is up in the tube, not hanging free in the trans, when everything is assembled. Is it possible then, that a really good seal at the top of the stick would prevent fluid from refilling the dipstick tube after it sloshed out in driving until the stick was pulled to let the air flow out of the tube and have liquid seek its own level???
