VDO Sender Recommended? 700 1985

I'm replacing my fuel sender and have come to a crossroads. I've found used original parts and new parts. The new ones are by VDO, I have no idea what the difference is, but I want to make sure I can mount it properly and won't end up needing other parts just to accomodate it.

Anyone have experience with this? Can the VDO sender take OEM in-tank fuel-pumps?

Additionally, the eletrical connection at the sender is corroded, and I can't test the pre-pump to see if it works. Is there a good chance its shot in a 1985 745t with 203k?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Rick
