Gremlins return! 700 90

Last winter my car ate through coolant like it was its business (765Ti), icluding some white smoke out the back for the first mile in the morning. I replaced a few minor items hoses, fluid changes, etc and the problem seemingly went away. Now that it is getting colder and I am using the heater more often my brick is starting to eat through the coolant again and the white smoke has returned. If it is a headgasket why does it seem to be related to heater usage?
