Air Box Thermostat 700 1988

Hello,

I have changed the thermostat in my Air Box and it has left me with a few questions. When I was fiddling with the hinge unit the hinge came off and I forgot to note the position of the hinge. (Whether the hinge was open towards me or if I would see the closed end. Any ideas?) The thermostat I received from IPD had a little gold piece that went on the long shaft. It appeared as if the gold piece would not be compatible with the plunger because the plunger looked too concave for the shape of the gold piece. Would I have been correct to have installed it without that gold piece?
