service light reset 700 1989

Hi, I've read the FAQ for this topic but still need help resetting the service light. My '89 has the little rubber plug near the speedometer that I removed to expose what appears to be the reset button. However I still can't get the light to turn off. I have tried pressing the button with the key in position 0, 1, and 2, and also while the car is running. I even tried holding the button down while I switched through various positions 0 through 2, and while starting the car. Nothing seems to work.

Is there a secret that somebody can let me in on, or is my button just broken?

Thanks!
