Reverse is no longer an option 200 1982

1982 GLE V6; has always (last 10,000 miles) been slow going into reverse. Lately, a bit slow engaging drive, like stuttering a bit if taking off again after stopping at a light or stop sign. This evening, though, reverse magically turned into drive at the gas station. I have no reverse. Would a trasmission flush/fluid change help? This really sucks.
