hello all,
i have successfully converted an 83 diesel 240 into a 4speed standard with OD.... it was very straightforward the only hole needed to be drilled was in the firewall for the clutch cable(nobrainer).... everything seems to be fine except the park sensor for the ignition on the auto tranny... i found that in the 'park' posistion the sensor takes positive power from the reverse sensor and routes it to a blue/yellow wire which somehow allows power to the starter solenoid.... i tried just connecting them permanantly but on the first drive their were sparks coming from under the car, draining the battery quickly, and now the fuse for the reverse lights blows out when i touch them together.
assuming the starter from the automatic will work with the standard...my question is, where is this saftey mecanism and how can i bypass it? also, is the overdrive activated or deactivated when positive power is sent to it? also what do the pinkish red and other wires on the stick shift go to on the car?
anyway, the car feels way cooler with the stick and contrary to what i was told by several wussy ass mechanics it was much easier to put in than another autocraptic... all you need is the tranny,crossmember, pedal assembly, drive shaft, and flywheel/clutch assembly..... dont be scared! their is an extra ear hanging off the far right of the pedal assembly that is easier to just cut off with a saw so it will clear the steering column easier when you install it.
