Water on floor of passenger side

Hi Gold 245,

I suffered exactly the same problem as you, on the same side as you (my drivers side) on my '86. 245s are prone to this type of leak and can confuse and confound by leaking profusely from several different places at the same time.

The main leaks I found were through the panel to the right of the passengers feet (the rocker panel I think you chaps call it) and through the wiper spindles.

Remove the rocker panel trim from inside. Behind it you'll find a waxed cardboard panel. Mine had deteriorated badly so I removed it and used it as a template to make a new one from 2mm thick synthetic pond liner rubber. I then stuck this back in place with about 19 gallons of black RTV (this stuff practically holds the car together!).

The other main leak I had was from there the wiper spindles go up through the scuttle panel. Remove the glovebox assy to reveal the wiper linkage. Remove the wiper arm. Undo the 3 bolts (10 mm heads as I recall) inside the car that hold the linkage to the panel and you should then have enough movement to clean any poop off of the mating faces before smearing with gobs of RTV and reassembling. Messy, but successful.

There are other sources for minor leaks such as through windscreen seals, antenna mountings, around doors, through the bulkhead (firewall) etc that are worth looking out for.

Special thanks (yet) again to a wise man called Zee who saved me from suicide with his knowledge of leaks.

Good luck,

Big Rich.
