Gauges dead when first driving car, then come to life 200 1990

This is a good one.

When I start the car many mornings, and sometimes after it has sat for a while, the instruments are dead and the upshift indicator is on when it should be off. The clock is working, but the speedo, temp, and gas are dead. After a while the gauges will mysteriously heal themselves and come to life, and the shift indicator will go back to normal. Any warm start after that, they will be fine.

Interesting thing I noticed yesterday - started the car when it had been sitting for just a little while, and the instruments were wacko - but they went back to normal when I revved the engine. Aha! Electrical issue.

Anyone 1) have this issue, or 2) know how to trace? Battery cables and ground seem ok.

Thanks, Jack.
