Hit below the belt-continued........ 200 1987

Hello everyone-
Well, I got the howling noise on my '87 245 isolated, and the noise is definately coming from inside the water pump, which is not good. It hasn't started to leak yet, but it would probably not be a good idea to take it on a ~2,000 mile trip tommorow, eh? If it were about 50 degrees warmer, I'd swap it out, but I don't really want to tackle this job when it's 16 outside. This water pump was just installed about 2.5 years ago by the dealer before I bought the car. Isn't this pretty premature failure?
Is there any chance I could make it on my journey, or is this a no no? Guess we'll have to take my wife's 240 instead. I've spent all month gettin' my ride ready, and now this! Guess it's better to find out now than 1,000 miles later. Any suggestions? Thanks!

-Ryan B. I just named my brick C3P0....Cause it's gold!
