modifying 740 cpu 700 1989

I also have an 89 740. It always been a slow starter, meaning it cranks over for several seconds before firing. Now that its cold out, it takes even more cranking, and occasionaly dies when I put it in gear. Should I take it that the engine temp sensor under the intake is bad? Or is it the cold start injector? Or.........?
