asbestos 1800 1964

Does anybody know when volvo stoped using asbestos? I have an 1800 and a 122 and they both have the asbestos tar pads. Does anybody know if other forms of abestos insulation was used in the paneling or in the firewall. There is a fiber by the pedals and under the backseat that seems like a natural fiber but it is sometimes hard to tell. does anyone have more inlightened info? has anyone bothered to take it out? I'm thinking about painting it with a sealer seeing that removing it might be more of an exopsure hazard.
