Incredibly hard to cold start 142 140-160 1972

I'm having much difficulty getting my 72 142 to start in the mornings (it's fuel injected). I've had the cold start injector off and it squirted when I turned the ignition on and I put it back in (I guess I did it right). Right now it is below 30 degrees every night and getting it cranked in the morning takes me right to the verge of draining the battery. Once the car is warm it starts fine.

Help?

Also my trunk is humming. I'm guessing it's the fuel pump but it is definitely making a humming noise - should I go ahead and have one ordered and ready? Is this a precursor sound to it going out soon?

Mike (72 142 - who hates maintenence in the winter)
