Rivet removal / Speaker installation

So I got my new car ('90 744ti AW71), its a real jewel. Previous owner had never replaced the
stock speakers, so I pull off the grilles to install my Pioneers, and much
to my dismay, they are riveted to the doors. So for the first speaker, I
simply drilled out the rivets. This made a mess, and dropped the rear of the
rivet down into the door panel. Is there a better way of getting those out?

And once they are out, since there are no threads on the fiberboard door
panel, whats the best way to mount my new speakers?

Thanks all
