Q: Limited Slip Additives or Special Oil?

I noticed that the owners manuals and repair manuals all say to use the Volvo special additive if your Volvo has a Limited Slip Differential. What I am unsure of is whether by additive they mean something you put in the gears in addition to the gear oil, or if they mean 2 quarts of a special oil that has the Ltd. Slip additive in it already?

Volvo wants $16.00 for one pint of the additive. For a 2 Quart gear box fill, this comes to $64.00 without the tax.

Are there any generic oils with the additive already in it, or if not, are there any after market products that are more reasonable in price (CRC products? ... Valvoline products?)

Thanks,
Diyer
