asbestos revoval 120-130 1966

I took out the remains of the headliner today and discovered that the asbestos tar paper on the roof had disintigrated into a brittle powder. I sprayed the stuff with water to de-aerosol it and I'm going to paint the remnants with latex paint. Has anyone done this? Seems like it might work alright. The ones that are still gummy I'm not worried about.
