Electrical problem - starting 200 1989

Hi. If there is just no spark then the problem was probably just the distributor cap or the rotor arm. But if there was no spark and no fuel, then I would suspect the impulse sender coil (which is located beneath the rotor arm in the distributor). This coil sends an impulse to the fuel pump, to pump fuel and to the ignition circuit to energize the coil for a spark. I had a problem with an intermittent break in this coil a few years ago and the symptoms were the same. When the mechanic was cleaning the contacts he may have disturbed the sender coil and made it work again. A new fuel pump relay should be good after only three years so if the problem happens again, try changing the impulse sender coil. Rob.
