heater hoses -- how to remove/replace? 700 1989

I just changed the hose going from the firewall to the block, the best advice i got was to cut the hose to make it easier to remove. I was able to do this job without removing the intake manifold, you just have to find a way to get your hands in there. not easy, but possible.
