!986 Volvo GLE Runs Rich 700 1986

My car started running very rich (black smoke on startup and when idling). I noticed it after using prolong treatment in the oil change. I just got in it one morning and very hard to start then finally started and a sputter with black smoke. When I drive it awhile it gets better but still has a rough idle. The other morning,it just would'nt start when the temp was 19 overnight. That afternoon after almost burning up a starter,it started still with a pop in the idle until it warmed up. Could it be an air mass meter?or sensor? So wierd.
