Weird rattling noise from engine...HELP!!! 700 1990

Hello, y'all.

I have a problem on my 1990 740 TiC with a rattling noise in the engine. It is quite loud, comes from (seemingly) the right side of the engine bay or possibly beneith the car. It also goes away under hard acceleration (or maybe I just can't hear it under full throttle) As well, there is a smell of exhaust fumes when stationary.

Recently, my car went through a bit of an "excursion" (at night, no way to prevent, very low speed), and it ended up like this:

4 ft. Concrete dropoff |\

The dealer checked it out, and only really the side corner marker was damaged and the bumper was popped out on one side. However, where the dropoff connected with the underside, it pinched the catalytic convertor...could this contribute to the rattle????

Any possible repairs I can do myself??

*PS* Now after this happened to me, I love Volvos even more...think of other cars that would have totally been mangled...but I only sustained about $350.00 Cdn damage...

THANKS!!!
(Sorry for writing a book on here)
