I my opinion ... the 940T is the only choice. Look at the condition of the turbo. Pull the hoses and look for excessive oil inside ... a little's fine a lot is not. Check the turbine for binding or lateral movement on the bearing. Spin the blade with your finger tips ... try pulling it side to side to check for wear. Get a compression check. Look at the condition of the oil. If it has service records and servicing has been done regularly that's a big plus. Look at the tranny for signs of leakage. Check the fluid for water contamination (milky color) or dark burnt smelling fluid. Those are not pluses. Check the engine front seals for leakage as well. Check the steering rack for leaks inside the boots or at the steering shaft connection.

The 940 Turbo especially the 1995 (the last 940T year) model is my top Brick choice. I've not found a chip available for the 940T but installing a Dawes device with the protection of a air/fuel ratio meter ... can make them very, very strong performers. My $.02
