Rack and Pinion Switch 200 1984

Guy down the street is giving me the rack off of his ex's volvo. Seems to have been somewhat of a bloody break up. Now that the vultures are circling ,ie:me, i pose the query that goes along the lines of this. The car in question is unfortunatly a car. An '83 sedan whereas my baby is a sweet '84 wagon. The idea is to switch the rack and pinion with no one being the wiser. Can this be done? Seems that there is two types and i was wondering if any one out there might know if these parts are the same. By the way before you think that somthing shady is going on the car has been abandond for the last 2 years and only now am i getting arong to taking parts off of it. Thanks for any help and/or advice.
