Steering problem

940 Non Turbo
1995
Automatic transmission

Steering wheel makes "gook" noise whenever I turn the steering wheel left and right. This happens when the car is not moving. When it is moving, turning left and right does not give problem.

My studies in this site points to the U-joint.

Has anyone out there experienced the same problem? If yes, I like to know how you've resolved this problem.

Also when going thru' uneven bumps (especially when the high side is the driver's side) the steering wheel tends to turn on its own. When going on uneven patches of the road the bumping sound seems louder on the driver's side beneath the steering column.

I've checked the front bushes and confirmed okay by a mechanic. The ball joint was replaced. Front absorbers were replaced in Jan 2001 and the absorber mounts replaced in July 2001.

Please advise and thanks for in advance.
