First I'ld check if the engine still fires up and runs. Engines don't heat up all that fast, if you start out cold it's OK to run it for 15 or so seconds.
Check the classifieds for what similar cars go for, and honestly assess how good that car really is. If it's otherwise fine, it might be worth fixing. If it's marginal anyway, it probably isn't worth very much in your market.
