I have done quite a bit a research lately on used Volvo’s. The value of an older car is really negotiable. If it were worth 40k 10 years ago and declined 6k in the first year and 4k every year there after, would that make the car FREE?? NO. Age cannot dictate price, up or down. I have found that it all really depends on how you market the vehicle. Honestly the car is only worth how much someone is willing to give for it. Nothing more. ALTHOUGH you can 'help' them want to give you more for the vehicle. I recently sold a car through auto trader and have found them to be the most cost effective way to do so. Place a photo ad in their weekly paper. Allow your self nearly infinite time to sell the vehicle and be willing to sell it at any time. Set a reasonable fair price that you would LIKE to receive for the car and let it sit. Know what you want as your bottom dollar and just wait. (It's kind of like going fishing.) Cosmetics are more important to a prospective buyer than performance. Most people wont even inquire about the performance as long as the car runs ok. The value is really up to you and how much you think you can get from it. If your just trying to target a decent price, I like to use 'autotrader' online and just do a country wide search for your particular vehicle and see what people have it listed for elsewhere in the US.
I can only hope this info is useful.
