1984 242 GLT 200 1994

I have been looking into the purchase of 84 242 project car. Unfortuantely, I actually found one for a very good price. I say unfortunately because I won't actually be buying one until some time later. But anyway if the winds change in my direction I wanted advise on what to ask the owner(for future). The car is about 500 miles away but for the price and mileage it would be worth the trip. Have any of you bought a used car from a distance, any bad stories? What should I ask the owner to weed out the possibilty of a car crapping out 200 miles down the road(since I'd drive it home)?

Thanks
