1987 240 GL: soft brakes after long drive 200 1987

Hi all,

This is my first ever car and have had it for three weeks now. I've been driving it on average about 500 KM every weekend. Freedom machine!

All seems well, apart from the brakes. This car has been religiously maintained by the previous owner. I had it inspected by a mechanic before purchase who was impressed by its condition, but suggested that the front brake pads were a tad low and it would be best for the dealer to replace them before I hand over the cool dollars. This was done.

However, I noticed after the second 500 KM trip, that by the end of the journey, the brakes became very soft. It felt like they needed to be pushed down a lot before I could feel them grabbing. Most of my trips thus far have been around very winding roads, so lots of hair-pin curves and lots of braking to slow down to take those curves safely.

The brakes feel fine in the morning of the next day. Any ideas as to what might be causing the soft brakes?

Thanks.

Dan.
