rough idle and high revs 900 1992

I have a 944T and it likes to rev abnormally high before shifting to a higher gear. It used to shift around 2200-2700 rpm but now it won't shift until 3300-4200 depending on acceleration, load, and just normal driving. This experience occurs the most when the engine is cold but still occurs after normal driving-why? I have put techron and similar additives in after filling up the car and it seems to help but less and less-what's going on-do I need a transmission fluid flush or something more serious? Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks
-Nick
