Do you have good cranking power? Have you charged you batt with a charger lately? If you have good cranking power and you have not used a charger then IMHO the alt is capable of doing its job so is the batt. Even if the batt was bad, IF the alt is working properly an idling car doesn't usually run out of electrical power cause you turned on the lights.
