My overdrive is not working intermitently, and I am not sure why. The green light always comes on (standard M46) and it always goes into overdrive the first time on a drive. Once I downshift and then try to shift back into overdrive thats when I get the problem. It shifts sort of or half way if that makes any sense. The rpms drop, but if I step on the gas it slips back into 4th gear. If I mess with the switch a few times it eventually "clunks" and stays in overdrive. It also tends to shift better at higher speeds. In general I find it very soft shifting compared to the one I had in my 75. The 75 one really clunked both coming in and out. Does anybody have any suggestions. I don't hink its the relay but I am "Fosterizing it" because I expect someone will ask me if I have tried that. I just opened it and I don't see any bad solder joints. I resoldered the all the main joints anyway. Why is it so complicated. It even has an IC chip in it. Its only a relay! I had the overdrive in my 75 wired straight to the shifter switch, no relay. What do you need it for anyway? Is the IC chip what converts the pulse signal from the shifter button to on/off?
